Job Description
The Clinic Asst. II works in an outpatient setting to carry out clinician's orders, perform established patient care procedures, and to reinforce patient education.  The clinic asst. must be able to work effectively and appropriately with health care providers to assure that patients are treated in accordance with established standards of quality patient care.  Strict patient confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
Medical Assistant is classified as paraprofessionals who perform clinical duties in an outpatient setting under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or supervising nurse practitioner or physician. The Medical Assistant completes other job-related duties as assigned by the clinic Nurse Coordinator, provider or manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Prepares patient for clinician visit.
  1. Measures and records vital signs and weight.
  2. Screens patient for infectious diseases noting rashes or URI symptoms
  3. Questions patient regarding presence or absence of pain and records response
  4. Escorts patient to exam room
  5. Assists with procedures as requested by the provider 
  • Prepares exam rooms prior to visit to ensure proper equipment and supplies are available. 
  • Maintains temperature logs and notifies engineering if outside of acceptable range.    
  • Performs point of care testing on urine specimens, blood glucose and urine pregnancy.  
  • Collects and sends specimens to laboratory and ensures proper handling for transport.      
  • Chaperones physicians when performing physical exams.          
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs order entry in medi-tech for laboratory tests
  • Maintains sufficient stock of supplies in exam rooms
  • Checks expiration dates on supplies on a monthly basis
  • Has general working knowledge of front office activities
  • Answers phones
  • Schedules new and return appointments
  • Checks patients in    
Job Qualifications 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and follow both oral and written instructions
  • Ability to recognize potential problems and make corrections
  • Medical Assistant certificate from a recognized training program required
  • Ability to carry out the duties of a position requiring frequent bending, reaching, stooping, walking, lifting, and carrying up to 25 pounds and standing for long periods of time.
  • Tasks involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids or tissues.  The potential for spills or splashes of blood, body fluids or tissues exists in job related tasks.
