DESCRIPTION
Position Summary

Provides complete range of dental care to patients including routine dental care, dental extraction or operations, removable and fixed prosthodontics, periodonics, restorative dentistry, endodontic, and instructs patients in oral hygiene and prevention. Documents assessments and plan of care for each patient in accordance with standards of care and policies and procedures. Provides referrals to specialists as necessary. In collaboration with the Health Department and Medical Director, prepares annual goals, objectives and activities for the dental office. Prepares and maintains annual dentistry program budget.

Supervision Exercised
  • Supervised by the Health Center Director.
  • Supervises the Dental Assistants, Hygienist, & contracted specialists as necessary.
  • Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical dentistry services to the Pueblos of Sandia and the Native American community.
  • Follow established dentistry standards, procedures and practices.
  • Gives specific dental care directions to dental staff.
  • Responsible for examination, diagnosis, planning, treatment, and follow-up of patients.

  • Ability to use dental instruments, equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Ability to dispense medication.

  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess strong customer service skills.
Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
  • Degree in dental surgery (D.D.S.) or dental medicine (D.M.D) from a school approved by the Council on Dental Education, ADA, or other dental school provided the education and knowledge acquired.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience in General Dentistry.
  • Minimum of five (5) years supervisory experience required.
  • IHS experience helpful.
Licensing Status
  • Must maintain a valid New Mexico dental license.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a Background and Character Investigation in compliance with PL 101.630.
  • Must maintain a valid CPR Card.
