Perform paraprofessional dental and surgical procedures while assisting faculty and resident oral and maxillofacial surgeons during routine exams, history and physical, new evaluations, surgeries, post operative treatments and follow-up treatments.
- Prepare instruments trays for surgical procedures.
- Assist and circulate during oral and maxillofacial operations or restorative procedures.
- Prepare surgical suites for full scope surgical services by setting up instrument trays, checking monitoring devices, and surgical handpieces for functionality.
- Provide ancillary support by administering and processing radiographs, escorting patients, providing patient recovery and counseling regarding post operative recuperation procedures.
- Sterilizes and gives routine care to clinical instruments and auxilliary supplies, including hand pieces, compressed air apparatus, syringes, and suction equipment.
- High School diploma or GED with three years of related experience.
- Completion of an approved dental assistant course.
- Requires registry with the Texas State Board of dental Examiners (TSBDE) as a Registered Dental Assistant (RDA).
- Associates degree in Dental Assisting is preferred.
- Graduation from an educational program accredited by the Council of Dental Education of the American Dental Association and certification by the Dental Assisting National Board.
- Additionally, certification in Basic Life Support and bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
