Medical Assistant I, Medical College of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, WI

  • Greet and room patients. Obtain and document brief history, vital signs, vision and hearing screening, allergy status, and current medications. Update medical record for physician review.
  • Under the direction of physician, resident or nurse; perform immunizations, injections, urinalysis and other procedures accurately, obtain appropriate consent and complete necessary documentation. Accurately enter vaccination information into the Wisconsin Immunization Registry. Package specimens for lab analysis as needed. Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Assist physician and nurses with patient care, exams and procedures as needed.
  • Prepare patient exam rooms and equipment and select instruments using aseptic and sterile techniques.
  • Clean and stock patient exam rooms, ensure adequate stock of instruments and supplies. Order supplies and sterilize instruments. Maintain cleanliness and order in clinic to ensure patient and provider safety.
  • Assist front office with administrative duties as needed. Arrange, as necessary, any supplies for home care of the patient.
  • Actively participate and assist with special programs, e.g., car seat, bike helmet, pack n play, and book distribution as well as various education, research, and community outreach projects.
  • Actively attend and participate in scheduled clinic meetings and educational opportunities.
MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Appropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Experience: 1 year experience in a patient care or clinic front desk setting taking vital signs. Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician or other similar experience preferred.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Completion of Basic Life Support/CPR and Child Passenger Safety Seat.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Possess a high degree of flexibility and ability to adapt quickly to changing demands. Able to multi-task and communicate effectively with a wide range of people under sometimes stressful conditions. Maintain confidentiality. Maintain order and safety. Pediatric experience preferred. Spanish proficiency would be beneficial.
