- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Graduate from a high school or GED.
- One year of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
- AAMA Certified medical assistant (CMA), American Medical Technologist Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Center for Competency: National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), or National Allied Health Test Registry: Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA).
- The employee must provide their supervisor with proof of valid certification within 90 days of their start date per established Ambulatory Department guidelines.
- Certification in CPR.

- Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to maintain a safe work environment.

- Ability to react and communicate clearly, calmly and effectively.
- Skills in taking vital signs,maintaining records and recording test results,phlebotomy and other lab procedures, and skills in administering immunizations
