Willamette Dental encourages Dental Assistant externships in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Our offices typically have multiple doctors which provides an excellent learning opportunity for students.
Responsibilities
Students prepare patients for examination and ensure our patients are prepared, relaxed and are as comfortable as possible. Working chair-side under the supervision of the dentist, you will perform a variety of tasks; selecting and handing instruments to the dentist during dental procedures and practices of standardized procedures, techniques and methods used in dental assistance. Our Dental Assistants also may remove sutures, apply topical anesthetics to gums or cavity-preventive agents to teeth - remove excess cement used in the filling process and place rubber dams on the teeth to isolate them for individual treatment. The dental assistant must have excellent patient communication skills and be able to instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care and be skilled in cornal polishing and sealant placement.
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in a bona fide Dental Assisting program and meet school criteria for externships.
- ADA accredited programs are preferred.
