Responsible and accountable for providing oral health care to patients such as fillings, extractions, dentures, root canals, etc.
Responsibilities
- Examine patients and document findings on standard forms, utilizing applicable dental classification systems (i.e., APHA).
- Provide appropriate preventative restorative dental care as needed within the administrative guidelines to all inmates.
- Provide appropriate care for emergency patients as soon as possible.
- Maintain cleanliness and sterile conditions in the Dental Unit.
- Ensure continuity of care.
- Make appropriate entries on patients' charts.
- Supply data for clinic reports.
- Keep dental license up-to-date, and ensure current copy is on file in the Health Care Unit.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Must be CPR certified and skilled in recognizing the symptoms of shock and fainting, and must be prepared to provide necessary aid as directed during emergency procedures.
- Responsible for dental office security to include instrument, medicine and needle counts.
Qualifications
- LICENSING: Current state dental license; Current DEA license
- CERTIFICATION: CPR
- EDUCATION: Minimum 3 years practicing dentistry, with 24 months experience in hands-on comprehensive dental services within the past two years.
- EXPERIENCE: Minimum 12 months experience in a correctional health care setting or in a public health setting, military, or managed health care environment desirable. Skilled in recognizing the symptoms of shock and fainting; must be prepared to provide necessary aid as directed during procedures.
